Dr. Atiqur Rahman Sunny
From WordPress to Astro: a faster, lower-maintenance site for a research mentor
Astro · Personal brand
We moved a research mentor’s site from WordPress to Astro. Every page is now static HTML: fast to load, with no plugins to patch and little that can break.

Problem
The site ran on WordPress, so a mostly brochure site still needed plugin and core updates, a database and security patching to stay online. That is a lot of upkeep for pages that rarely change.
Solution
We rebuilt it on Astro, which generates every page as static HTML at build time. There is no database or plugin layer to attack, and no update treadmill.
The client
Dr. Atiqur Rahman Sunny is a research mentor and publication coach. His site sells mentorship plans and strategy sessions, lists courses, and links to his publications and press coverage.
Why we moved it off WordPress
For a site like this, WordPress costs more than it gives:
- Maintenance. WordPress core, the theme and every plugin need regular updates, and each update can break something.
- Security. A database-backed login page is a constant target, even for a small personal site.
- Speed. Every page was built on request by PHP and a database, with plugin scripts loaded on top.
What Astro changes
- Static pages. Astro builds every page to plain HTML ahead of time, so visitors get a file, not a database query.
- Little JavaScript. Pages ship almost no JavaScript by default, which keeps them fast on mobile connections.
- Nothing to patch on the server. No plugins, no database, no admin login exposed to the internet.
- Cheap, simple hosting. Static files can be served from a CDN.
Content changes now go through us, or through a simple edit-and-publish workflow, instead of a plugin-heavy dashboard.
