A custom WordPress theme for a free, volunteer-run meditation platform: live Zoom session calendar, member accounts and video library. Built and still maintained by us.
Problem
Sahaja Online is run by volunteers and offers meditation for free. They needed a site volunteers could update without a developer, a clear way to find and join live online sessions, and member accounts, all on a non-profit budget.
Solution
We designed and built a custom WordPress theme from scratch with ACF and Bootstrap, covering the session calendar, member registration and profiles, the video and resource libraries, and the blog. We have maintained it ever since.
The client
Sahaja Online is the online home of Sahaja meditation, a free, not-for-profit practice. Volunteer instructors run live sessions over Zoom, from introductory classes to ongoing practice, alongside self-guided videos and guides.
What we built
- A custom theme, built from scratch. No page-builder bloat; it is designed around how people discover meditation, from first visit to first session.
- Session calendar. Introductory and ongoing online sessions on a calendar, so newcomers can find a time and join.
- Member accounts. Registration, profiles and self-service account deletion, with intermediate and advanced sessions limited to invited members.
- Video and resource libraries. A video library, quick-start guide, blog, and a large library of articles on health, character, spirituality and the subtle energy system.
- Editable by volunteers. Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) lets the team update pages and sessions without a developer.
Ongoing care
We still maintain the site: WordPress, theme and plugin updates, fixes, and new sections as the community grows.
